Overview:

Ross University School of Medicine, located on the beautiful Caribbean island of Dominica in the West Indies, invites applications for a PART-TIME Counselor in the Student Health Center. Our mission is to prepare highly dedicated students to become effective, successful physicians in the United States. Basic science coursework is taught in Dominica and students then complete their clinical studies in the United States. After passing all prerequisite examinations, Ross graduates are licensed to practice medicine in all 50 states of the U.S. Ross University School of Medicine is a division of DeVry, Inc (NYSE:DV)

 

This is a non-tenured, twelve-month, professional staff position reporting to the Director of the Health center.

The Counselor/Psychologist is a part-time member of the Health Center. Responsibilities will be shared with the Behavioral Science Department.  The Center is a multidisciplinary unit that provides health care to the students at Ross University. 

The Counselor/Psychologist will engage in a wide range of counseling that supports the mission of the Center and University.



Responsibilities:
  • Screen for emotional problems among students at the health center
  • Provide initial assessment and support
  • Deliver counseling services to individuals/group/couples clients
    Provide emergency and crisis intervention services, Periodic on-call duties. (Some evening and weekends required);
  • Serve as staff coordinator for all groups and outreach activities;
  • Serve as primary liaison to the central staff of University in addition to coordinating on-going training between departments;
  • Participate in consultation services offered to faculty, staff, students, parents, etc.;
  • Provide outreach and student development programming to campus community;
  • Serve on campus committees and work groups;
  • Experience working with an ethnically diverse university population preferred;
  • Interest and experience with multi-cultural issues, eating disorders, assessment, or substance abuse treatment desirable;
  • Facilitate small group behavior lab sessions.
  • As time permits, represents Ross University regionally and nationally through active participation in governance and operation of professional organizations;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Health Center.

 



Qualifications:

Earned Master's Degree and internship in counseling or clinical psychology; Licensure (or license eligible) as a Psychologist or Clinical /Mental Health Counselor (Allied Health);

  • Demonstrated successful experience in provision of psychological services.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in supervision of clinical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability work effectively with professional and administrative colleagues from differing departments and disciplines
